Here are some videos that may help you increase your understanding of horses, how we care for them and the equipment we use. There are lots of videos available on the internet. Many are not very good and some are actually wrong and potentially quite harmfull. Beware and be critical of what you see on YouTube where horses are concerned.
The following videos are all useful and support the teachings and methods that we use in Pony Club. I will continue to add new videos from time to time. You will notice that I sometimes point out a note with the video, to draw your attention to something that is not totally following PC practice - like horse not tied to a breakaway loop.

In this series the observer is introduced to the causes of lameness, a checklist to assess lameness, when to call the vet, practice in identifying the location of lameness and finally a series of tests to measure your skills.
Inside Nature's Giants: The Thoroughbred Racehorse (Anatomy and evolution) 50 minutes: Inside Nature´s Giants -- Racehorse.
Observer alert: A horse is dissected.
This video looks at the anatomy and function of the foot, legs, muscles, tendons as well as the heart and lungs of the horse to help to explain why horses are such good runners. The racing in this film is thoroughbred steeplechasing, very popular in England and Ireland but rare here in North America.

This vet uses a poultice called Ichthammol but other brands are available. Poultice is a wet dressing that serves to combat infection in puncture wounds, draw infection from abscesses, cool inflamation. The bottom of the foot is a tricky place to bandage!
Do not support the horse's leg by slipping your knee under it, as the fellow in the video does - dangerous!
